A genuine 17th-century Hungarian 1 Denar struck in 1612 during the reign of Matthias II, King of Hungary and Holy Roman Emperor.
Struck at the historic Kremnica Mint, identified by the KB mintmark. This small billon coin was part of the everyday currency of the Kingdom of Hungary more than 400 years ago.
The obverse displays the crowned Hungarian coat of arms with the Latin legend identifying Matthias II. The reverse features the Virgin Mary seated on a crescent, holding the infant Jesus and a cross, accompanied by the inscription PATRONA HVNGARI, meaning “Patroness of Hungary.”
