A heartfelt Bicentennial-era medal from the prestigious Society of Medalists series. This is the 94th issue, released in October 1976, designed by sculptor Anthony Notaro.
Design
The obverse shows a self-portrait of the artist together with his immigrant family, all dressed in 17th-century attire. Above them appears the moving inscription:
“PILGRIMS ARE WE ALL”
Signed by the artist on the right.
The reverse features a small three-masted sailing ship on the open ocean, with the simple legend “MAYFLOWER” below.
Struck by the Medallic Art Company (then in Danbury, Connecticut), the medal measures approximately 73 mm in diameter and displays the classic golden bronze finish with tan patina. This example includes its original box.

Notaro, who arrived in the United States as a young immigrant, created this medal as a personal tribute during the American Bicentennial year.
