1867 Two-Cent Piece — Fair (FR) — Holed
A historic 1867 U.S. Two-Cent Piece, struck at the Philadelphia Mint and designed by James B. Longacre. The obverse features an ornate shield with the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” while the reverse displays a large “2 CENTS” surrounded by a wheat wreath and the inscription “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.” The Two-Cent Piece is especially notable as the first U.S. coin to bear the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
This example is graded Fair (FR) and has been holed, meaning a hole has been intentionally made through the coin. The heavy circulation wear has resulted in substantial loss of the original design detail.
