Description
This ancient Roman coin was struck during the reign of Constans, who ruled the Roman Empire from AD 337 to 350. It is an AE4 nummus, a small bronze coin that occasionally retained traces of a thin silver wash, leading some examples to be described as billon (BI) in collector references.
Constans was the youngest son of Constantine the Great and ruled the western provinces of the Roman Empire after its division among Constantine's sons. His reign was marked by military campaigns along the Rhine and in Britain, as well as religious and political conflicts within the empire.
