Historical Background:
Constans was the youngest son of Constantine the Great. Following his father's death in AD 337, the Roman Empire was divided among Constantine's three sons: Constantine II, Constantius II, and Constans.
Constans initially governed Italy, Africa, and the Balkans before eventually becoming ruler of the western portion of the empire. His reign was marked by military campaigns along the empire's frontiers and continued religious disputes within Christianity.
In AD 350, Constans was overthrown by Magnentius, a military commander who declared himself emperor. Constans attempted to flee but was captured and killed, bringing his relatively brief reign to an end.
The Antioch Mint, located in modern-day Antakya, Turkey, was one of the most important mints in the eastern Roman Empire. Its coins circulated throughout the eastern provinces and are an important part of Roman numismatic history.
