Historical Background
The Sui Dynasty (581–618) was founded by Emperor Wen (Yang Jian), who established the dynasty in AD 581 after overthrowing the Northern Zhou regime. One of his greatest achievements was the reunification of the Chinese heartland after nearly three centuries of political fragmentation.
