Historic Design
The Massachusetts quarter features a reverse design by Thomas D. Rodgers that honors the state's revolutionary heritage. The design depicts the "Minuteman" statue standing in front of the outline of the state of Massachusetts, commemorating the state's pivotal role in the American Revolution. The statue is based on the famous Minuteman sculpture at the North Bridge in Concord, Massachusetts, where the "shot heard 'round the world" was fired on April 19, 1775 .
