A highly desirable and historically important 1890 Tibet Kong-Par Tangka silver coin from the Ganden Phodrang government period. This coin represents one of the most fascinating areas of Asian numismatics, combining Tibetan Buddhist symbolism, Himalayan history, and unique regional coinage.
The Kong-Par Tangka series was produced in the Kongpo region of Tibet during periods when local authorities needed a reliable silver coinage system. The design was influenced by earlier Nepalese silver coinage that circulated widely in Tibet. The 1890 issue is one of the later dated Kong-Par Tangkas and is identified by the Tibetan date 15-24, corresponding to 1890.
This L&M-626 One Circle Around Lotus variety features a beautiful reverse design with an eight-petaled lotus surrounded by the Eight Auspicious Symbols of Tibetan Buddhism, including the conch shell, endless knot, treasure vase, victory banner, dharma wheel, golden fish, parasol, and lotus.
The coin is graded AU58, representing a high-quality example with strong details and minimal circulation. Coins of this type are highly collected because of their limited production, distinctive Tibetan design, and importance in the history of Himalayan trade and currency.
