A historically important silver tetradrachm issued in the name of Alexander III of Macedon, one of the greatest conquerors in world history. Although Alexander died in 323 BC, his coinage continued to be produced by successor rulers and authorities throughout the Hellenistic world, preserving his name and legacy for generations after his death.
The obverse features the portrait of Herakles wearing the lion skin of the Nemean Lion, while the reverse depicts Zeus seated left holding an eagle and scepter, with the inscription identifying the coin as an issue in Alexander’s name.
