2007-P Roosevelt Dime — About Uncirculated (AU) — Off-Center Broadstrike Error
A 2007-P Roosevelt Dime struck at the Philadelphia Mint with a dramatic off-center broadstrike error. The obverse features President Franklin D. Roosevelt, while the reverse displays the Torch of Liberty surrounded by olive and oak branches.
This example is graded About Uncirculated (AU) and shows the effects of a striking error involving the planchet being struck without proper collar containment while also being positioned off-center. A broadstrike occurs when the collar does not properly contain the planchet, allowing the metal to spread outward during striking. An off-center broadstrike combines this expansion with an imperfectly centered strike.
The 2007-P Roosevelt Dime had a very large regular mintage of 1,047,500,000, making the mint error—not the date itself—the source of its collector interest.
