1920-S Buffalo Nickel — Good (G)
A desirable 1920-S Buffalo Nickel, struck at the San Francisco Mint and designed by renowned sculptor James Earle Fraser. The obverse features a Native American portrait with “LIBERTY” and the date, while the reverse depicts an American bison standing on a raised mound.
This example is graded Good (G), showing heavy circulation wear with significant loss of detail, while the date, mint mark, and major design elements remain identifiable. The “S” mint mark identifies this as a San Francisco issue.
The 1920-S is an especially interesting Buffalo Nickel because only 9,689,000 were minted, and the issue is known for weak strikes and heavily worn dies. Even though the mintage was relatively low, the coin is much more valuable as the grade improves.
