1893 Columbian Exposition Half Dollar — About Uncirculated (AU)
A historic 1893 Columbian Exposition Half Dollar, issued to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's voyage and the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. The obverse features a portrait of Christopher Columbus, while the reverse depicts the Santa Maria sailing between two globes.
This coin is especially significant as one of the first official U.S. commemorative coins. The Columbian Half Dollar was the first U.S. commemorative half dollar series, with the 1892 and 1893 issues created for the exposition.
This example is graded About Uncirculated (AU), showing only light wear on the highest points while retaining much of its original detail and luster.
